Bagurumba Dance of Orissa:

Bagurumba dance is a famous folk dance of Bodo community of Orissa. This community also found inAssamin a large scale. So this Bagurumba dance is also well knownAssamstate ofIndia. Bodo community performs this melodious and colorful folk dance during their ritual festival called Bwishagu festival. Bwishagu is an important festival of bodo tribe which falls during period of Mid-April. This festival begins with worship of cow. According to bodo people cow has spiritual power and a residential place for their deity. On this festival youth bow down to their elders and relatives.

On this Bwishagu festival bodo people offer sacrifices of animals to their deity. They enjoy food of chicken and take beer. Bodo women prepare themselves with traditional adornments and jewelries to perform Bagurumba dance. Male of bodo community plays various traditional musical instruments. sifung (a melodious flute), serja (a bowed musical instrument), kham or madal (a long drum made of wood and goat skin) and tharkha (a piece of split bamboo) are important instruments of bodo community which they play during Bagurumba dance.

Bagurumba folk dance is very famous in Chirang, Baksa, Darrang, Nalbari and Bongaigaon regions. Bagurumba is a melodious part of bodo people. They also perform this folk dance for their entertainment and joyous. There is a beautiful video of Bagurumba folk dance as follows.
