Bhaona is one of most famous folk dance of Assam state. It is a brilliant creation of the Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva who created it to give ritual massages to the villagers of Assam along with entertaining them. Bhaoma is a dance drama of the state in which various mythological and factitious characters plays the roles of kings, soldiers, queen, gods, demons etc. This bhaona is the dance which performed to give a message to people of our society that truth always wins. it shows the victory of righteousness over the evils.
Bhaona dancing drama is mostly played in region of Namghars and Satras villages of Assam. The people of those villages follows the vishnavite. The main role of this dancing drama plays a person called as Sutradhar who explain the sloks, mean of typical words, dance, sing songs and also explain the various part of Drama. There is a subdivision of the Bhaona folk dance which known as Hajowaliya folk dance. It is basically a ritual female folk dance which only played by women. Women dances with a magical combination of Lasya and Tandava. There is an another dance form of Bhaona dance of Assam Natuva or Cali dance.
The Bhaona dance is a dance drama reflecting the winning of truth in the end of story. It is like a narration of a historic story by using the dance performance in front of people of villages.
