Bharigaan Tribal Folk Songs of Assam

Assam is the state of tribal communities belongs to their different and colorful traditions. One community is differing from the others with its folk dances and folk songs related to their religions. Bharigaan is the folk song of one of above communities of the state of Assam. Bharigaan is the folk songs of the tribe Pati Rabhas. It is the tribe which found in the region of Goalpura and Kumrup district of Assam.

Bharigaan is one of the folk song of Assam which is not widely sung by this tribe of Pati Rabhas because of this is the community which is not spread out in other cornars of Assam. Basically it is the folk musical part of this tribe and the people of this community call it as a Guru Vidya which means the subject taught by the musical teacher of the tribe. There is no so much information about the origination of the folk culture of this tribe.

Bharigaan is a most wonder full folk song of the Pati Rabhas tribe. It is the folk song which has a beautiful theme of ethnic dramas during the presentation of this folk song. The most famous ethnic drama consist with it is the great epic of Indian religion named ‘Ramayana’. There are three type of Bharigaan folk songs first is the drama of Oja Pali, second is Khola Tala and the third one is a Drama troupe of chorus.

The most popular feature of this folk song with drama is that the all people of during the presentation covered their faces with the masks of the character of the story of epics. Bhari gaan is not so much to sing in wide areas of Assam. It is mostly seems in Goalpura and Kamrup regions.
