Bizu Dance of Tripura:

Bizu dance is a very beautiful folk dance of Chakmas community of Tripura. This folk dance born from a very ancient festival of Chakmas named Bizu festival. Bizu festival is one of the most important festivals of Chakmas. This festival runs for a three days period. It is a celebration of ending of previous year and beginning of new years. First day of Bizu festival called as ‘Phool Bizu’. On first day of this festival people cleaned their houses, they prepare delicious meals, they decorate their houses, they collects various vegetables and herbs for greens. They also hunt fishes for non vegetable meals.

Second day of Bizu festival is known as a name of ‘Mul Bizu’. This is a very main and important day of this festival. On this day all male, female, boys and girls gathered on a places and moves together from one Chakma’s house to another. They do this job for whole day. They enjoy a party with local liquor named Modh. Modh prepare by women Chakmas. The last day of this festival is called as a name of ‘Gojjepojje Bizu’. On this day chakmas performed a bizu dance in various groups of people. Before this dance performance both men and women both beautifully ornamented themselves.

They dance with melodious rhythm tic sound of various musical instruments. There some beautiful instruments uses by chakmas are Baajhi a kind of flute, Dhul a kind of drum, Dhuduk a bamboo made instrument and Hengrong another musical instrument made of bamboo. Bizu dance is not only performed by chakmas community but also plays by other tribes of Tripura. There is a very nice and magical video of Bizu folk dance of Tripura as follows.
