Chalo dance is a dance form of Nocte tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. This tribe is chief found in the central region of Arunachal Pradesh. The word Nocte has an appealing mean; it is the tribe ‘Living in a civilized community’. It is the community which is a group of people of living in an organized community which controlled by a leader of village recognized as Lowang Jat. This is a community which follows the Vishnavism and also worships a local deity named ‘Jauban’.
The Nocte tribe is the follower of religious festivals and occasions. Festivals are the sign of color and zest or joy. This tribe also celebrates a famous festival ‘The Chalo Loku Festival’ every year in the month of October and November. This is the carnival of this community which is a symbol of prosperity, good health and good fortune for them. They celebrate this festival with a great pleasant and feelings for their deities. They also organize a famous dance of this community during the festival time.
Chalo dance is the best mode to understand the cultures of this community. Chalo Loku is a three day festival and each day has its unique name as following: Phamlamja, Chamkatja and Phamlamja. They killed the buffalos and pigs for the meat to represent in front of their deity. Subsequently day they also follow some customs of checking and rechecking.
