Gujarat is not only famous for its folk music but it has a well name on the ground of classical ragas. It is the state which is mostly famous for its devotional songs about Lord Krishna. Gujarat, mainly Saurashtra has a rich bequest in folk and classical music. This state has been given some of the finest musicians to our country India. The variety and brilliance of the folk harmony shows that Gujarat has grown as an artistic state in all over country.
In Gujarat there are so many forms of classical ragas which are known as the name of their territories. There are some names of classical ragas like Bilaval (from Veraval), Gujari Todi, Khambavati (from Khambhat, Cambay), Sorathi, (from Sorath), Ahiri and Lati are the major forms. There is a most known classical devotional songs ‘Vaishnavajan’ written by Narsinh Mehta who narrate the importance of lord Krishna about the vaishnavas from Gujarat.
Tana Rivi and Baiju Bawra are the famous name of classical ragas of Gujarat who was popular for their especial ragas of ‘Deepak rag’ and for ‘Rag Malhar. Both of the singers were not only in Gujarat but also famous all over India. There is a well known devotional song which is sung by Narsinh Mehta “Vaishnavjan to” in Gujarat which is based on lord Krishna as follows.
