Dances of Bihar

Bihar is the most important state of India. It is located in the part of eastern India. It is the twelfth biggest state of India in the conditions of geographical area and third biggest populated state in India. The capital of Bihar is a Patna which is one of the most beautiful city of India. This state has a great significance in all over the world for its university named ‘Nalanda’. This is the state through which Indian National river ‘Ganga’ is flowing. Almost 85% population of the state is living in the rural part of the state. Thus the state is also a residence of the various tribes or people of different religions like Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christens.

Bihar is the sate of various communities and these communities followed their own folk culture and folk tradition. So it is also a land of folk dances and folk music. All of the activities related to the peoples of different religions and various tribes are different from each other but universally they have linked in one to another folk tradition. All of the dances are the shows of the rich part of the state. It is the land which has a good name in the ground of both folk and classical dances in India.

Rajgir dance festival of Bihar is one of the best festival in India. This is the festival which is famous for folk cultural activities. Folk dances of Bihar are the sign of prosperity, peace, harvesting, good health etc. These folk dances are related to the occupational, family or social ceremonies. Sohar – Khilouna folk dance is representing on the occasion of a birth of child while Kajari dance performed at the end of summer season. Jhumeri is the folk dance which represent on wedding ceremony. Jat – Jatin is also a one of the popular folk dance of the Bihar.

Usually most of the folk dances are famous for the separate dances of men and women but Saturi folk dance of Mithila tribe is one of the beautiful dance which is performed by both men and women together. Natua dance is a beautiful classical dance of the state. All of these folk and classical forms of the dances of Bihar represent their unique purpose of celebration but the main aims of those dances are joy, spiritual culture, worship of deities and some of them related to harvesting.
