Danda Dance of Orissa:

Danda dance of Orissa is another very charming folk dance. It is a very ritual and religious folk dance. Danda dance of Orissa is a tribal folk dance. Danda dance is an ancient part of Kaibartas community of Orissa. This community performs this beautiful folk dance during ritual and religious festival month of chaitra and vaisakh in Hindu calendar. This festival begins from full moon day of Chaitra month and ends with eight day of Vaisakh month. They perform this folk dance to show their honor to their local deity named ‘Vasuli Devi’.

Dancers of Danda dance worship their goddess Vasuli Devi for get blessing of good health, good fortune, good prosperity, good harvest, peace and to fulfill their ambitions. They also worship lord Shiva during that time of festival by their dance performance. They participate in this dance with beautiful colored cloths and jewelries. Some of male participators plays musical instrument during dance performance.
