Daskathia Folk Dance of Orissa:
Daskathia is a beautiful folk dance of Orissa. Daskathia dance is a dedication to Lord Shiva. Tribal people in village of the state perform this beautiful dance art to worship lord Shiva. During this dance performance they mention various forms of lord Shiva as Mahadeva, Hara, Rudra, Shanker, Bholenath etc. Along with lord Shiva tribal people also worship other Hindu goddess and god such as Vishnu,Krishna, Kali, Durga, Ganesh etc. Daskathia is a very fabulous folk art of Orissa. It is an ancient art of the state.
Daskathia dance of Orissa consider two people in a dance group. One of them roles as a chief singer and known as ‘Gayaka’ where as other roles as assistant and known as ‘Palia’. Palia is a second fiddle to Gayaka. Gayaka sing various stories and ritual song and Palia acts and repeat his songs and says. Both of dancers hold a pair of sticks. They beat their sticks to each other for melodious rhythm and sound. Daskathia dance is a dance drama. Most of efforts of Daskathia dance are based on acts and speech of Gayaka.
