Deodhani Dance in Orissa:

Deodhani folk dance is one of most important or famous folk dance of Orissa. It is also very famous inAssamstate ofIndia. Deodhani is a female folk dance. It can be perform in a group of three to four female dancers. In tribal regions of Orissa people perform this folk dance to worship their deity Manasa or Maroi. There is a mythological story behind originate of this folk dance of Orissa. There was a woman named Behulaa dances in front of goddess Manasa to get back her died husband. Her husband name was Lakhinder. She got back her husband by impressing goddess Manasa with her praise and dance.

From that time in Orissa tribal people perform this folk dance on festivals and ritual occasions. In this folk dance women participate with wearing Mekhela in Muga a special dress. They wear red blouse and appropriate jewelries. They dance with open hairs of heads. They move beautifully according to sound of musical instrument. Male plays musical instruments. Jaidhol is very important musical instrument of this folk dance.  Most beautiful and dangerous part of this folk dance is dancing with Daa. Daa is a sharp weapon which uses during battle against enemy. Female dancers beautifully use this weapon during their dance performance.
