Deodhani Dance of Assam

Assam is the land of folk dances and folk music of many of the communities living in this corner of India. Deodhani is one of the most famous folk dance of the Assam. This dance mainly has two forms one of them is a semi classical one other is a type of trance which is not a type of the dance. The Deodhani dance of the state Assam can be found easily in southwest Kamrup and Mangaidoi area of this state.

Deodhani dance of Assam is a dance form to worship a ritual snake goddess which called as the name of Manasa. During the performance of this dance a girl danced in a form of trance on the musical rhythm of the gorgeous musical instrument named flute and drum. The girl called as the name of Deodhani when she performed this dance.

During the dance performance the Deodhani girl dances by taking many deity forms. She starts with the Lord Shiva and ended with the form of goddess Lakshmi. At the ending time of the Deodhani dance the girls takes a shield and a sword and performed a war dance. This form of war dance looks so magical part of the Deodhani dance. The girl who plays the role of Deodhani girl make themselves practicized performer with hard work.
