Dhad of Punjab

Dhad of Punjab:

Dhad is a very similar musical instrument as Damaru. We can not say that Dhad is a different kind of folk musical instrument. It is very near to damaru by structure. Main difference between both of musical instrument is knotted chord. Damaru has knotted chords in both side but dhad does not. The playing way is another important difference, damaru plays with shaking of hands. When a player, shake damaru knotted chords strike it and create melodious sound. While Dhad plays by hands. A player of dhad beat its sides with his palm or finger to create rhythm and musical sound.

Though, Dhad is plays with using of hands so it give much of control over sound and rhythm so it is more rhythm tic folk instrument than damaru. Dhad is a wooden made musical instrument ofPunjab. Waist of this musical instrument binds with ropes. During various folk dances and folk music inPunjabpeople play this gorgeous musical instrument of the state. Dhad inPunjabalso called as small Punjabi dhol. There is a nice video of playing Dhad by a player of this musical instrument as follows.
