Ektara Single String Instrument of Rajasthan

Ektara is a regular string musical instrument. It is a single stretched string instrument to play the music. Ektara is an integral part of Rajasthan. It has it’s a unique essence of five thousand years old music of this state Rajasthan. It is a very unique and a milestone of this state culture and tradition. It has spent a long journey in musical life of Rajasthan.

Meera the great poet and a great priest of Lord Krishna spent her whole life with this instrument in search of his lord Krishna. She was the poet who made a historic story on the land of bravery and religion the Rajasthan with making of tremendous songs and music.

Ektara is a making of single string, an animal skin covered on the circular bamboo made by wood or coronate or guard and has a pole neck. Ektara has mainly three types of categories named by tenor, soprano and bass Ektara. Bass ektara is also known as dotara because it made by two strings.

Ektara is a very famous musical instrument of Rajasthan in the field of devotional songs and music. Its history has great features which make it something especial for us to hear its melodious sound and rhythm. Rajasthan is a land of desert so it also called as Marudhar and the musical background of this state make it a fine achievement for this state through Ektara.
